Myrna Mitchell’s Custom Furniture

“Eric has been delightful to work with in meeting my custom furniture needs.  I have known him now for over 10 years and he is fearless in taking on any project.  He has meticulously designed and built a number of beautiful, creative items for my home and office:  foyer table, four-piece bedroom set and three-piece office furniture (conference table, credenza/bookcase and desk).  All built to my personal preference for type of wood, style, space and function.  I highly recommend contacting Eric Sutton for your custom woodworking needs”.        Myrna Mitchell

I very much enjoy working with Myrna. Her understanding of and appreciation for fine materials and workmanship is rare. She gives me enough direction to be able to envision what she was seeking, as well as very broad room for my own creativity in the design process. All of her furniture is solid wood. The larger parts such as the legs, I glued up with miter joints at all the corners so that no wood joints showed on any of the faces. All the panels are tung and groove jointed both to each other and into their respective frameworks.  Her foyer table is pegged mortise and tenon jointed hickory with tung oil and lacquer finish. Both her bedroom set and office furniture are made of a combination of cherry and quarter sawn oak, with mortise and tenon joints. I pegged many of the joints with contrasting wood pegs, and added some contrasting wood inlay as well. I used a custom color oil based stain on the bedroom set, table and desk, then finished them with custom tinted lacquer. The credenza has a hand rubbed lightly tinted lacquer. I often add extra design details as I find opportunity for them during the construction process if my customer is open to them. In Myrna’s case, this is unusually satisfying for me.
